It is difficult to miss the decorated entrance and a symbol made in an attempt to look like some royal emblem when you pass by the restaurant off LBS Marg.
A fine Thursday evening we landed there in an attempt to try something new. The restaurant has a wallet parking on the opposite open space off the road.
The sitting area has a tiny artificial pond with a few fishes and a couple of turtles which is a centre of attraction for children. The restaurant with ground + upper floor has minimalistic decor, brown wooden interior with sitting on both sides of the aisle. The glass covered wall on one side makes the place much bigger than the actual.
The welcoming and friendly staff promptly brought Cheeslings for my one and half year old even without asking.
We started with Emerald Forest, a combination of Lychee, Guava, Lemonade and Grenadine, and Spicy Drunkers, a blend of Guava, Mint, Chillies and Rock Salt. Try only if you like the combination of chilli and rock salt.
For sides and starters, we tried Rumali Masala Papad, a crisped Rumali roti with toppings used in masala papad. Mexican Cheese Chigar was heart shaped variant of cheese balls and was nicely cooked with the right balance of crispness and cheese.
For mains, a fusion dish, Manchurian Sizzler with garlic noodles base and a peri-peri sauce was our selection. It was garlic noodles for which we would definitely like to repeat this again in our next visit.
With the total Rs. ~1000/- for two, without alcohol, combined with good food and prompt service makes this recommended option in the vicinity.
Recommendation: Rumali Masala Papad, Manchurian Sizzler if you like to try fusion.
P.S.- Bad luck struck with the camera’s SD card getting corrupted resulting in loss of almost all but 2/3 photos which I managed to recover after trying for a couple of hours.
An absence of maid combined with unwillingness to prepare lunch on a lazy week-end is Hola Chef’s gain.
The nearby restaurant whose number is in your quick dial has the same old menu. Here Hola Chef promises to score. Daily new menu. Well, almost!
Installed the app, selected a few items and made payment. An order was placed at around 10 AM for the lunch delivery slot 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. The clock started ticking and ting-ting. Not the doorbell, SMS, from Hola Chef, informing about the delayed delivery, by 20 mins!
Another ting-ting, at 1:40 PM. It was doorbell, luckily, this time, by Hola Chef delivery boy.
Now the order; in Baked Macaroni & Cheese with Garlic Bread, the macaroni tasted well and was properly baked. Garlic bread failed to impress. Chewy, mostly as a side effect of the delivery.
Refried Beans and Jalapeno Quesadillas came with salsa and Jalapeno Sour Cream Dip. Quesadillas were quite spicy, good if you are ok with Indianised variant of the Mexican dish.
Spicy Minty Kokum Sharbat and Lychee Thai Chilli Cooler were average. Quantity was less but can’t expect more in Rs. 50 a bottle.
On an average, food is good, at Rs. 445/- for 2, the prices are justifiable. But if you want the fastest delivery, probably that quick dial number is your best bet.
The United Sports Bar & Grill requires no introduction when it comes to hanging out with friends over good food and drinks. Their wide range of LIITs and happy our combined together was a good motivation this time.
The ambiance was dark, very dark so to say with loud music. This is expected considering the projectors and TVs are on displaying ongoing matches but lowering the volume a little and increasing the light a little will surely help.
The Staff is very friendly and service is inconsistent in terms of timely-ness and promptness. Well, at least, these attributes are consistent with their other outlets. Namely Viviana Mall, Thane one.
Now coming to food, we tried Potato Wedges (Rs. 150++), Cheese Garlic Bread (Rs. 175++), French Fries (Rs. 125++), United Supreme Pizza (Rs. 280++), Veg Sizzler (Rs. 280++) and Thai Curry Veg. (Rs. 320++). None of the food items disappoint us and the pizza and Thai Curry Veg. were one of the must try.
In drinks, United 11 (Rs. 850++) was a show stopper. Upon my request, the staff not only explained me all the 11 spirits used in the making of United 11, he prepared the United 11 in front of me explaining all the ingredients and a little history. Visit my blog post In search of the best LIIT to know more.
Recommendations: United Supreme Pizza, Thai Curry Veg., United 11 LIIT
Tip: Visit during off-peak hours to get better service.
Not being a sports or beer fan, sports bar seldom appealed me; but wanted to try their LIITs since long based on my friend’s recommendation.
No special mention of the ambiance. Typical sports bar like atmosphere with multiple screens displaying ongoing sports events and a super-size screen for any mega event. I would be glad if they pump-up the lighting little bit.
The staff is very friendly, but service lacks consistency and depends on the food you order.
The unlimited buffet lunch didn’t appeal us much and we stuck to a-la-cart option.
We tried Onion Rings (Rs. 150++), crisp and well prepared. Bruschetta (Rs. 180++) would have been better with the softer bread base. The service staff happily customized my Veg. Penne Pasta (Rs. 280++) to make it as per my choice and we liked it the most. Mexican Burger (Rs. 280++) was good in taste but was a little dry.
Among drinks, LIITs have considerable wide varieties. Being here for the first time, we stuck to the Classic LIIT (Rs. 350++).
These are mixed with a generous quantity of Apple, Orange and Pineapple juice and topped with Grenadine or Pomegranate Syrup to give deep red color. The reason why it was previously called Red Devil under the brand Manchester United Cafe & Bar.
Long Island Ice Freeze, the LIIT variant at Hoppipola is a blend of 5 whites (rum, vodka, tequila, gin and orange liquor) along with cola and is potent enough to quickly give a buzz on an empty stomach. The presentation of LIIT in a bucket of dry ice, I felt was needless. LIIT should is best served in a tall and transparent glass.
Harry’s Bar + Cafe
With a standard combination of 5 whites and a dash of cola, LIIT was good. Not the most potent I have ever had but didn’t disappoint me either. Rather than tall cocktail glass, this one was served in a jar and makes it visually different from others.
Stay tuned for more!
If you have a recommendation on some of the great LIITs I should try and include here, kindly drop a comment below.
